There are two markings in the run out groove that I haven't been able to figure out what they mean.
The first is present on every pressing, including the White Label Promo. You can see it on the bottom (click the picture for a bigger view):
These markings are found on the TS-310 (with the 2D matrix) and the T-310 (also with the 2D in the matrix) pressings (click for a larger view).
A T-310 copy is below (as can be seen from the light brown rather than grey inside the Tamla label). This mark is not found on the White Label Promo nor is it found on the two S-310 copies I have.
If anyone knows what these mean, drop me a line.
Could the TC etched mean Tom Coyne now with Sterling?
ReplyDeleteWhat looks like an etched "Lp" in the first pic would actually appear to be an upside-down interlocked "dh" - one of the mastering engineers at RCA's "Mid-America Recording Center" studios at 1 North Wacker Drive in Chicago, which sadly closed on April 26, 1972. (Afterwards, this mastering engineer transferred to RCA's "Music Center of the World" studios at 6363 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood - and another RCA Chicago mastering engineer, Randy Kling, went to RCA's Nashville studios - both of which were closed by early 1977.) A few months after RCA Chicago shut down, Curtis Mayfield acquired the studios which became the recording studios for his Curtom operation.
